Before You Go Gown Shopping...Part 1

These are some very helpful suggestions to consider before you take that big step in finding your dream gown. Every bride is different and every shopping experience is different, but over the years of helping brides find their gowns, we find that these guidelines are tried and true.

Do keep an open mind when trying on gowns. Most brides who come in with a certain gown they like in a magazine, more often than not end up falling in love with a completely different style. We see this ALL the time, take our word for it.

Don't let yourself get overwhelmed by going to several different shops in one day or one weekend. Space out your visits and give yourself time to think about what you have tried on. Bridal gown shopping can be emotionally and physically draining. You need to give yourself time to absorb everything you've seen.

Do take a few people who's opinion you value and trust. Having a large number of people will often mean a large number of differing opinions. This is only going to guarantee absolute frustration for you. We understand it's hard when so many people want to be part of your important shopping trip. One suggestion that we recommend is taking a FEW of those people back to the store to choose accessories for your dress. Sometimes finding accessories can be just as hard as finding the dress. But remember in the end, the only person whose opinion matters is YOURS. This will be your dress, so be sure to make yourself happy.

Don't put off shopping till the last minute. We can not stress this enough! Waiting till the last minute can only cause unwanted stress, and who wants that?! On average it takes about 6 months for the dress to be ordered, to be constructed, and to be altered. A lot of designers offer rush shipping for a nominal fee and it is do-able to have rush alterations. So leave yourself plenty of time to shop and have your dress ordered.

Do call the boutique to schedule an appointment so that the consultant can give you their undivided attention. The White Closet specializes in getting to know their brides and how they want to look and feel on their wedding day. We do not schedule two or more brides to one consultant like some big box stores do. Bridal appointments do tend to fill up quickly, so if you do have to cancel or reschedule, please call the store within 24 hours of your appointment to make those arrangements. This way the store can schedule another bride into that time slot.
